Abstract

Background: Based on observations during the researcher's participation in the West Sumba Student Association in Yogyakarta. Researchers found that smoking behavior is still quite high, as well as perceptions of students regarding warnings on cigarette packaging where there are still many students who ignore these warnings and continue to smoke even though they know the dangers and impacts that will occur if smoking, not only will have an impact on smoking. active smokers but also has a negative impact on passive smokers.

Research Objectives: To determine the effect of warning perception on pictorial cigarette packaging with smoking frequency on students of the West Sumba Association in Yogyakarta

Research Methods: this type of research is a quantitative research with a cross sectional research design. The population in this study were students of West Sumba in Yogyakarta who had a KTA, namely 102. The sample used random sampling with a total sample of 50 respondents. The analytical test used is the Product Moment test.

Results: A total of 21 respondents (42%) had a positive perception while 29 respondents (58%) had a negative perception. The rare category is 1 person (2%), the medium category is 40 people (80%) and the frequent category is 9 people (18%). Product Moment test results show that the Effect of Warning Perception on Illustrated Cigarette Packaging with Smoking Frequency on Students of the West Sumba Association in Yogyakarta is 0.003 <0.05.

Conclusion: There is an Influence of Warning Perception on Illustrated Cigarette Packaging with Smoking Frequency on Students of the West Sumba Association in Yogyakarta.
