Abstract

Background: Therapeutic communication is a process to create a relationship between nurses and patients and other health workers. Poor communication will lead to client dissatisfaction with the information and nursing services provided by nurses. In contrast to the application of good therapeutic communication will improve the image of nurses and hospitals. One of the patient's dissatisfaction with health services is influenced by the therapeutic communication factor of nurses in providing nursing care. The results of interviews with 10 patients at the study site showed that 40% of patients stated that the nurse had never looked at the patient, 30% of patients stated that nurses never gave the opportunity to patients to express their opinions and does not answer the patient's questions 20% of patients stated that they spoke in a language that was difficult to understand, did not explain information to patients, does not offer assistance to resolve the problem and never explain the intent and purpose of the action given to the patient. 10% of patients stated that they did not give the patient the opportunity to explain their illness, not wholeheartedly in providing services.

Research Objectives: To determine the relationship between nurse therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction in the Inpatient Room of Bethesda Yakkum Hospital, Yogyakarta in 2021

Methods: The research design used an analytic correlational design, with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all inpatients at Bethesda Yakkum Hospital, Yogyakarta in May 2021. The sampling technique used proportional random sampling with a total sample of 94 patients. Data analysis using Spearman rank test.

Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nurse therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction in the Inpatient Room of Bethesda Yakkum Hospital, Yogyakarta
